The large single cap rivet is ideal for securing a combined leather thickness of 20 - 25 oz thick. An ounce is equivalent of a leather thicknes of 1/64 inch. Therefore two layers of 10 oz leather (5/32") can be riveted together or up two layers of 12 1/2 oz (25/64") leather.
Following is a leather craft video showing how to set single cap rivets and double cap rivets in leather. Although the procedure is the same for different size rivets, the cap size may vary requiring a wider or narrower setter. The mini anvil also makes a great work surface as opposed to using a large homemade anvil shown in the video.
